Walt Whitman was born May 31, 1819 In West Hills, New York which is now Huntington. Walt was the second of nine children, at the age of four Walt and his family moved to Brooklyn, New York. Walt was pulled out of school at eleven and put to work so he could help out his family. Walt Whitman wrote one of the most famous collections of poetry, Leaves of Grass. He would publish a total of 6 versions of this book. Whitman would deal with many conflicts in his life from criticism from others on his writing to family matters. Walt had suffered a stroke in 1873 and had died in March 1892.
